i fancy going to tibet - i tried to when i was living in china but it was impossible to get a ticket - the authorities were wanting to keep foreigners and their views about the status of the country under control.
That first pic looks like the place where they filmed the "Sound Of Music" movie - lol!
I love "mother nature" and feel its a damn shame what we've done to it. BTW, that 4th pic looks like the kind of place I'd like to check out. Course thats never gonna happen since I just don't have the dough-reh-me.
LOL - i was riding a bicycle round outside Salzburg once and came across a field just like this one - and instantly re-named it the Julie Andrews field! and took a million pics.
yeah #4 is beautiful - don't know where it is - just found it labeled 'Mirror Lake'.
most amazing place i think i've ever visited in this vein is the Himalayas in Nepal - i trekked over a week to the basecamp (4000 metres +) of Anapurna 1 (8000 metres +) - it was awesome! and did a post with pics on it on 9 may 2008 - 'Pilgrimages and Trekking to the Base Camp of Annapurna 1, Nepal'. couldn't stop myself!
i wanna go where you went! (harry meets sally) - great photographic record.
haven't decided on where for us yet - there are really so many places to go. but the need is building - haven't been since last november and due for another adventure
Well... that was some of what Alberta has to offer. And the Canadian Rockies are even nicer in winter/spring (when the roads are good). It can get a bit cold, mind you... I'm also overdue for a break... but it's the middle of the school year out here and no break for me!
Thanks for the compliment. Glad you enjoy the pictures. And yes, I teach... which leaves me little time at this juncture to admire the beauties of nature... or for anything else, for that matter!
Excited about exploring a whole range of things on this blog which is, in fact, an extension of one I've been putting out since 2006. So postings about travel, books and photography I like, history, personal/anecdotal stuff of the non-'I Suffer' variety. So a potpouri of stuff to prove I'm just your average well-balanced kinda guy!

I lived in Beijing 1980 - 1982 but never got to Tibet.
ReplyDeleteI have travelled quite a bit, Nick, but not in recent years since I took on the care of my mother.
hey victor.
ReplyDeletei was there over 1988 - just before the square thing. you maybe experienced the same difficulty as i did getting to Tibet - were you trying to go?
but China is so damn big - there are so many other demands on your attention.
hey greg.

Picture 4 reminded me of some of the sights I took in this summer... just a few hours' drive from where I live. Have a good trip!

ReplyDeletedon't mind the icy weather - if it's fine - the cold seems to sharpen my senses!
you mention being in the middle of the school year - are you working in the school system? (ignore this if it seems too nosy!)
