Grace Jones - 'La Vie en Rose'

A knock-out disco version of 'La Vie en Rose' by Grace Jones - originally from Edith Piaf and by way of Marlene Dietrich.

What's totally FAB about this clip, apart from the music, is the accompanying surreal and artistic feast. Full of references from fine and pop art and fun ideas pillaged from glossy fashion magazines.

A perfect fusion of music and visual. Enhanced by Grace making visible the pulse of the music in the undulations of her body.

A few years back, Grace Jones performed at the Mardi Gras Dance Party here in Sydney - I remember dancing with a cute boy as she did 'La Vie en Rose' at midnight and the sprinkler system went off - due to the heat of ALL the cute boys around?! One of those great moments.

  1. Grace Jones: timeless, ageless.

SO many great memories associated with Grace's music. I heard last year that she was bringing out a new album, but haven't heard anything more about it.

    Grace, we need you!

  5. Grace Jones has a style that, as far as I can tell, has no equal. That was a very soothing song version.

Still remember her song "Demolition Man" and getting a kick out of it!

  6. i reckon almost the perfect music video. and a great stage performer - she seems even better reacting to an audience. where some performers are best in the studio. helps looking a billion dollars!

  10. hey tony, good to hear of your grace/anvil days - for me, the clip reminded of a gay and lesbian mardi gras dance where grace performed - she popped out of a cake (as you would) and was much more raunchy live than i would ever have imagined - she just just it out there. take care.
