Hey guys, I've just have been playing with Google Earth, a real fun free download - http://earth.google.com.

It let's you can twirl the globe from a satellite in space and see your country, and then in degrees hone down to your state and city and finally your house, flat, whatever. You can stop it at any time and save the image ('Save Image' in the drop down 'File' menu):

So what do you think? Scary, huh! Who's watching me when I leave home. Or even go to the pool! I remember a certain something happening there last Last New Years Eve ... !

Home sweet home:

And there is 'Google Mars' too. Not as much detail! YET!!!

Diary Bit - 'Update on Big Night at HQ'

Sorry guys to let the side down - ended up being too tired and staying at home. Bad choice in a way cos nothing much happens scene-wise till the week-end. Guess I'll have to take my own advice and go for myself. But even too tired for that!

History of Gay in Russia

In medieval Russia, there was a degree of tolerance/passive acceptance of acts of gay sex. Such acts were sins but there were no sanctions from the Orthodox church, or the state.

The first legal sanctions occurred in the late C18 but these were applied only to the army (of Peter the Great). In 1832, Article 995 appeared, in which 'muzhelozhstvo' (buggery) was criminalised, punishable by 5 years in Siberia. The law was rarely enforced, and hardly ever applied to the upper classes.

The early C20 saw the developing of a certain degree of visibility and acceptance, with Vladimir Nabokov, in 1903, suggesting that the state should not legislate for private sexual acts between individuals. Between the overthrowing of the Romanovs in 1905 and Kerenshy's Duma to the Bolshivik Revolution of 1917, gay was further tolerated, with Mikhail Zuzmin putting out 'Wing', a semi-biographical novel about coming out.

The Soviets decriminalised gay, which led many to see the USSR as a kind of Utopia. Intellectuals from the West (such as Bertrand Russell) visited the country, only to be dissolutioned by the practice, as opposed to the theory, of communism. For personal reasons, a number of gay university students were also drawn by the seemingly liberalised society: Kim Philby, Guy Burgess, Donald Mclean and Anthony Blunt (in this order below), and many famously spied, often as double agents, only to defect when discovered. Blunt was identified in the early 1980's, for decades having been only known as the fourth agent. He has achieved prominance in British society, as a famous art historian and Purveyor of the Queen's Pictures.

However, decriminalization did not mean lack of percution - it took the form of gay being constructed medically, as a psychiatric condition and duely treated. And it was recriminalised in 1933 and, in the Stalinist era, as Article 121.

The first gay organisation of gay guys was formed in Leningrad (the former St Petersburg, but now Leningrad again) in 1984. but pressured out of existence by the KGB. Such organisations were only possible with the 'glasnost' (or 'openness') of Gorbachov. However, the early 1990's saw the greater conservatism and repressio under Boris Yeltsin.

The Soviet Union collapsed in 1991 and in 1993 a new Russian Criminal Code was in place, without Article 121. The following was handed out in a gay disco in May of that year - 'Enough is enough'

This was handed out at a gay disco in May 1993, when Article 121, which criminalized gay sex, was eliminated from the Russian criminal code.

In the poverty that has followed, led many (straight or gay) into prostitution, including those in the army, as soldiers were often not paid for months. They could be found in public places, such as outside the Bolshoi (Big) Theatre. We all know why there - art and faggotry have a natural relationship. And our fantasies of uniforms and power and violent domination.

So now we come to Alexei Gromoff! The first set are earlier ones keying into this period of the mid-1990's povery.

The second set, where Alexei has achieved super-stud-dom, show him far more buffed and manicured. Not the world's most incredible cock, but an arse and a bod to die for! Which might be why he puts so much into being topped. And sucking dick. And rimming (getting and giving). I particularly like the last two furrier pre-buffed photos.

Queer As Folk Prom Clip

A great schmultsy gay screen moment, happily, without the denouement. It's the Prom that Brian and Justin never had. I sometimes pretend I'm a bit more sophisticated but on a gut level this does it for me.
Light a candle by lighting ass gas on fire

You too can do this, if you feel the need. What really makes this clip are the two superlative sound effects synchronised with the Marceau-quality facial gestures, and then the guy being sooooo pleased with himself!

Superman

Superman came from Jerry Siegel (writer) and Joe Shuster (artist). They were high school classmates who published the fanzine 'Science Fiction'. In the January 1933 issue, 'The Reign of Superman appeared, with superman becoming a villan after gaining his super power - shades of Dr Frankenstein's delusions.

Later in 1933, Siegel saw the alternative potential of Superman as hero. However, the draft story 'The Superman' was rejected by the publisher they approached.

In 1934, the team re-worked our super hero in a comic format.

What's interesting to see is how the image of Superman evolved, becoming at whatever time each of us encountered him, one of our earliest homoerotic fantasies. Well, for me at least!

While I was intrigued by the man of steel's ability to fly, etc, it was his sexual charge that was prime. In the fifth cartoon(though awkwardly drawn), it's something about the twist of the body and his open muscular legs and available crotch. And in the tenth, the bulging muscularity of his shoulders and the harmonious sculptural forms and poses, shapes that rival/mimic Michaelangelo's nudes.

The last cartoon is from 2004 - beyond my experience of the comic - but it's kewl to see how our man of steel is still evolving.

I used to have dreams of flying. Didn't we all! For some of us, more chemically fuelled of late. In the earlier version, I would be running along, arms out, wondering if I could get up (!) and then there were those rare nights I soared into the air, usually to splutter down, Icarus-like.

The significance of all this I later understood from Jung. So it's easy to see Superman's appeal - he seems to be tapping into very basic human desires and motivations.

Now, Brandon Routh! Wow - what a hot new version - looks as though he's been drawn by a cartoonist and then made flesh and blood. The third (crotch) shot comes from TV series - anyone know which one?
